Catkins on Contorted Hazel This contorted filbert or hazelnut tree aka Harry Lauders Walking Stick (proper name Corylus avellana 'Contorta') has no shortage of pollen. Fine yellow dust floats in the air as my hand brushes against opening catkins at the Japanese Garden at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma.
